Flying from Dubai or Abu Dhabi soon? UAE airlines have tightened their power bank rules, and breaking them can mean your power bank gets confiscated at the gate. Here's what you need to know for Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia in 2026, and which power banks you can safely fly with.
Power Bank Rules on UAE Airlines (2026)
- Carry-on only: power banks are not allowed in checked baggage on any of the four airlines.
- Maximum 100Wh per power bank.
- One power bank per passenger on Emirates, Etihad and flydubai.
- No using it onboard: you can't charge your phone from a power bank during the flight, and you can't charge the power bank from the seat's USB or power socket.
- Where to keep it: in the seat pocket or a bag under the seat in front, not in the overhead bin.
- Label: Emirates and Etihad require the capacity (Wh) rating to be clearly visible.
Rules as published by the airlines and summarized by Gulf News (July 2026). Rules can change, so always check your airline's website before you fly.
How to Check If Your Power Bank Is Under 100Wh
Most power banks show mAh, not Wh. Use this simple formula: mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1000 = Wh.
- 5,000mAh ≈ 18.5Wh ✅
- 10,000mAh ≈ 37Wh ✅
- 20,000mAh ≈ 74Wh ✅
- 27,000mAh ≈ 99.9Wh: right at the limit, so check the Wh printed on the label ⚠️
- 30,000mAh ≈ 111Wh: over 100Wh, so not allowed ❌
